New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday replaced Puducherry Lt Governor Virendra Kataria and gave Andaman and Nicobar Lt Governor Ajay Kumar Singh the additional charge.
The move came on the day the Nagaland Governor resigned in retaliation to his transfer from Mizoram to Nagaland. Vakkom Purushothaman Purushothaman claimed that he was not consulted regarding his transfer.
The Narendra Modi government was mulling replacing the Congress-appointed Governors and five governors have already resigned in this regard.
They are BL Joshi (Uttar Pradesh), MK Narayanan (West Bengal), Shekhar Dutt (Chhattisgarh), Ashwani Kumar (Nagaland) and B V Wanchoo (Goa).
Two Governors -- HR Bhardwaj (Karnataka) and Devanand Konwar (Tripura) -- retired late last month.
