THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) officials are an aggrieved lot as promotions are getting delayed. After the mass retirement in March, till date just one promotion had come into effect in the KWA, that of internal auditor in the administrative section.
The files with regard to promotions and transfers are prepared by the E2 subsection in Jalabhavan and there were no hurdles in giving promotion to the post of internal auditor. However, problems cropped up when it came to promoting Chief Engineers and Executive Engineers. Sources in the KWA point out that though three vacancies were reported by the above section, when the file reached the Water Resources Department the number of vacancies became four. ''Thanks to some efficient officials in the Department, this foul play was noticed. In fact, directives were given to take action against the officials who tried to mislead the government. However, they have been protected. Anyway, the promotion to the post of Chief Engineer had been put on hold for the time being for further inspection,'' a source pointed out. It is from the same section that the probables' list of executive engineers were prepared. When the list reached the Water Resources Department, it was found that the names of eligible senior officials were removed. Following this complaint, the promotion to this post too was put on hold.
