Raids on fast food joints
Raids were conducted on the KFC outlet at Gold Souk, Chic King and several other restaurants and the samples were sent to the labs for further tests.

In the wake of the incident in which worms were found on the fried chicken served at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet in Thiruvananthapuram, health officials conducted inspections at several fast food chains in Kochi.

Raids were conducted on the KFC outlet at Gold Souk, Chic King and several other restaurants. “Samples were collected from these food joints and sent to the lab. We are now awaiting results. Regular inspections were conducted at some other restaurants too but staff shortage is making our task difficult,” said District Food Safety Officer Ajith Kumar.

Meanwhile, manager of Chic King at MG Road said nothing was found amiss in the inspection and all health and safety norms were being observed in the preparation of food.Shock Among People

However, the incident has come as a great shock to some of the regular fast food eaters. “International brands such as KFC should take great care in  preparing food,” said Rohit Sreekumar, a software engineer working in Technopark, who frequents fast food joints. “People pay big money for such food so we expect the restaurant to maintain high standard,” he added. The incident has prompted many to be cautions about the food they have from restaurants.

“We will not hesitate to file complaints if we have any. In today’s world, it is difficult not to eat  junk food as it has become a part of our life. All we can do is to be more conscious about what we eat”, says a customer.

Meanwhile, a few restaurant owners said they are extra cautious about the quality of food supplied to the public. “We are now more conscious about preserving food. We buy chicken from our Kalamassery unit which supplies only fresh products,” said the manager of KR Bakes at Palarivattom.
