CHENNAI: Stating that the CBI raids on Maran brothers seemed to be a mere eyewash to hoodwink the public, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday expressed doubts whether Maran brothers would still be keeping incriminating documents in their residences or in their office premises after the lapse of four years since the news about the scam broke. When journalists asked for her comment on the CBI raids on Monday, the CM said, “We do hope that something will come out of all these raids. But it seems to be an exercise in cheating public because it has been more than four years since the news of this scam first broke in the media and in these four years so much meaningful action would have been taken.”She further said, “It is very difficult to imagine that in this interval of four years, the Maran brothers would still be keeping incriminating documents in their residences or in their office premises. So we have to wait and see whether anything comes out of these raids.”The CBI raided the residential and office premises of Maran brothers after it registered an FIR against them  in connection with the Aircel-Maxis deal, alleging that Dayanidhi Maran received `547 crore as kickbacks from the Malaysian company.I’m Always with the Marans: KarunanidhiDismissing reports in a section of the media that neither the party nor he bothered about the CBI raids against Maran brothers, DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said he had always been with them and would continue to be so at all times. In a statement, Karunanidhi said he did not comment on the raids or on the CBI case against his daughter Kanimozhi. “Since the Centre has been saying that it has no links to these issues and that they don’t interfere in the CBI and court proceedings, I don’t like it to be politicised.” Hitting out at certain newspapers which reported that he was not concerned, he said it were part of the ‘conspiracy’. “I had always been with my grandsons Kalanidhi and Dayanidhi and would continue to support them in their effort to fight foisted cases.” He said that he had never hesitated to legally fight the cases against Kanimozhi, the Marans brothers and other party functionaries.
