CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the State Home Secretary and the Additional Director General of Prisons to release D Ethiraj, who had been suspended from the post of DSP, Nilgiris, allegedly for abducting a woman, on or before Monday (April 23). Justice KN Basha gave the direction when the matter came up before him again on April 19 last. Originally, Ethiraj’s daughter Sujatha Sivakumar filed a habeas corpus writ petition seeking the release of her father, in the Madras HC. It was dismissed by a division bench. She preferred a special leave petition before the Supreme Court, which on October 11 last year, after hearing the arguments of senior advocate V Padmanabhan, had given a specific finding that Ethiraj was very much entitled to the benefits of GOs, all relating to remission of sentence.
