Rights panel notice to Karnataka on school kids

Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsThe National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday issued notice to the Karnataka government over allegations that tufts of hair were cut from heads of four private school children admitted under the right to education quota."Allegedly, these students of Standard-I in the school are made to stand separately in humiliation during the assembly and their lunch boxes are checked before they enter their classes," saida NHRC statement."The parents of the children have also allegedthat the names of their wards have not been entered in the attendance register and the school makes them sit in the back benches and no home work is given to them," it said.The commission observed that the allegations, if true, raised a serious issue of violation of the rights of the children.Whileseeking a report into these allegations within four weeks, the commission asked the chief secretary of Karnataka to inform it on the action taken against the school authorities.first published:January 01, 1970, 05:30 ISTlast updated:January 01, 1970, 05:30 IST
