Rising water level erodes canal embankment, leaving villages flooded

Several villages in North Mohania and Durgawati blocks of Bihar's Kaimur district were flooded on Sunday after the embankment of Durgawati canal eroded under pressure from rising water level, official sources said.

The flood water has inundated villages like Gitapur and Rampur in particular and put in grave danger standing crops in hundreds of acres of farm land, they said.

Taking serious view of the matter, District Magistrate Arjun Singh has directed the irrigation department to expeditiously start repair works at the Durgawati canal embankment, the sources said.
