BNAGALORE: A Saturday outing to a place that will host innovative and interactive exhibits explaining measures to conserve nature sounds interesting?   Eco Fest, organised by BCIL-ZED, is exactly that and a little more.  It will showcase models on power saving, water conservation and waste management. “The basic idea behind these innovations is to reduce the usage of energy, especially in a city like Bangalore that uses 1.8 billion unites of energy a day” said executive chairman of  BCIL-ZED, Chandrashekar Hariharan. The Fest focuses on showcasing sustainable technology and solutions for Indian homes and to educate people. “The focus is mainly on students, who understand the issues and can work towards bringing about a change for the better, which is unlikely in the case of adults,” he said. The highlight of the Fest is the air-to-water machine that converts atmospheric moisture to water. This is claimed to be the first-of-its-kind in the world. Also models of rain water harvesting systems and  solar gadgets will be on display. The interaction will be in the form of film-screenings, poetry competitions and quiz contests for students. For the adults, there will be urban gardening to engage themselves. Campaigns such as Gubbi Goodu, which aims to bring sparrows back, and Million Seedballs, to plant more trees will be organised. The Zed fest will be open every Saturday between 9am and 5pm over the next few months at Yelahanka- Doddaballapur Road.
