New Delhi: The CBI, which is probing the murder of British teenager Scarlett in Goa, will send a team to the UK soon to record statement of the victim's mother and a witness.

"We will soon send a team to Britain to record the statement of murdered teenager Scarlett Keeling's mother Fiona MacKeown and a witness," CBI Director Ashwini Kumar told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday evening.

The partially clothed body of 15-year-old Scarlett was found on February 18, 2008 on the beach at the Goa's resort Anjuna. The killing has raised several questions over the security of foreign tourists in Goa.

"Since Fiona does not want to come to India, we have decided to send a team to Britain. The team will also record the statement of a witness of the case, who is also a citizen of that country," Kumar said.

Local police initially ruled her death an accidental drowning, even though she had about 50 abrasions on her body and sand on her mouth and throat. After pressure from girl's mother, they performed a second examination of Scarlett's body and determined she had been raped and murdered.

Police arrested Samson D'Souza, a bartender of the venue where Scarlett was last seen, in connection with the crime.

Her mother Fiona had claimed that the drug mafia in Goa was involved in her daughter's murder and named Goa Minister Ravi Naik's son Roy as a suspect, a charge Naik refuted.

As the case drew widespread public attention, the Goa government transferred the case to CBI. On June 5, the CBI registered a case and began probing the case.
