Eminent nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar on Saturday said education is one of the most important tools for empowerment of people living in urban and rural areas, though in a large country like India there is a problem to reach out to each and everyone. Speaking at Amity university in Noida, Kakodkar said Indians are lacking in fields of research because they "work as individuals and not as teams".
Those who are in teaching think that doing research simultaneously would affect their teaching efficiency, and those doing research think that teaching would ntake away their concentration and focus from research work. He suggested that teaching and research has to be aligned to enrich the quality of both research and teaching.
He also asked educational institutes to work together with industry to mutually benefit each other. Kakodkar, DAE Homi Bhabha Chair Professor at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), was conferred with honorary D.Sc for his exceptional vision, commitment to research, propagation of scientific enquiry, and continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology.
Meanwhile, Amity University conferred 4,474 students with degrees and diplomas during its annual convocation.
