Shannon Gabriel is a Big Plus to The Team: West Indies Test Captain Kraigg Brathwaite
The Test is a part of the larger South Africa tour of West Indies where a total of 2 Tests and 5 T20Is are being played until July 03.

West Indies roped in seasoned pacer Shannon Gabriel to the playing XI after being comprehensively beaten in the first Test against South Africa, and the fast bowler took two crucial wickets on Day 1 of his return to the Test. Ahead of the second Test, Caribbean Captain Kraigg Brathwaite was confident about Gabriel adding value to the bowling attack with his recovery in time to join the squad.

“Gabriel brings experience; played a number of Test games and has some pace as well, so that would add a lot of variety to the (bowling) attack. Being one of the senior guys, and helping Jayden and the younger guys in the team is always a plus. Having him in the team is always a big plus for the bowling unit and for the team as a whole”, said Brathwaite during a press conference before the second Test, which is currently underway at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia.

The Test is a part of the larger South Africa tour of West Indies where a total of 2 Tests and 5 T20Is are being played until July 03. With FanCode becoming the new official broadcaster for West Indies cricket in India until 2024, the complete tour is exclusively live-streamed on the platform.

Looking back at dismissals from the previous Test against South Africa in which seven wickets that fell for West Indies were catches, Captain Brathwaite expressed that the players need to back the plan which involves standing your ground as batsmen and scoring runs.

Despite the loss, Gabriel’s two-vital wickets against South Africa in the first Test was a highlight. “Gabriel brings out the spirits”, added Brathwaite. Shannon Gabriel has brought in a lot of experience to this young team as the hosts look to bounce back to secure victory against South Africa in the second Test.
