SP leader Narinder Bhati, who had earlier claimed that Noida SDM was suspended on his complaint, has denied his role in her suspension and said he would quit politics if his links to mining mafia are proved.
The Samajwadi Party leader on Wednesday told reporters that the state government had suspended SDM Durga Shakti Nagpal, who had cracked down on mining mafia, after getting feedback from different persons.
"SDM's role in demolition of boundary wall of religious place was the cause of her suspension and not illegal mining related issues," he said.
Bhati is chairman of UP Agro corporation and has Cabinet minister status.
He denied that he had any connection with mining mafia and said he was in favour of stringent action for them.
"I will quit politics if links with mining mafias are proved," he said.
Bhati said political parties were unnecessarily linking Nagpal's suspension with illegal mining.
"Even after her suspension, police has arrested several mining mafias and seized over two dozen vehicles," he said.
Residents of Kadalpur village, where Nagpal had got the wall demolished, said Bhati had donated Rs 51,000 for construction of mosque.
"If it was illegal construction, then why UP minister gave donation," they said.
The villagers said in the holy month of Ramzan, Nagpal should have refrained from demolishing the wall.
The SP leader said the mosque will be constructed following all legal procedures.
He said he had given his opinion and briefed about the incident (boundary wall demolition) to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Meanwhile, Noida BJP MLA Mahesh Sharma claimed that Samajwadi Party had a dual policy.
A temple was recently demolished but state government did not take any action against guilty officers, he alleged.
"But now, when boundary wall on government land was demolished which was constructed by religious body to grab the land near mosque, UP Chief Minister suspended the honest SDM who was doing her duty," he claimed.
He demanded revocation of suspension orders of SDM.
