THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: Stamp duty for Release Deeds (Ozhimuri Adharam) has been fixed at Rs 1000, Finance Minister K M Mani said on Thursday. It was earlier done for stamp duty on exchange of property among family members. Chemical and organic fertilisers have been exempted from sales tax in the Finance Bill. This benefit will be available to articles sold through the Central Police Canteen, he told the Assembly, presenting a request for supplementary grants for Rs 1359.93 crore. The State Government will examine how cess can be imposed on luxury buildings and people who own more than one house. If needed, more tax proposals will be brought in during the next fiscal. Construction of 12 lakh houses have to be taken up during the 12th Plan. The government has also to provide financial assistance for housing projects implemented by panchayats for the poor. For these, more money will be required, Mani said.
