Sudden downpour catches city by surprise

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a few days of lull, the north-east monsoon was active over the city on Monday afternoon. In fact, the sudden downpour caught people on the wrong foot. But what came as surprising and, shocking too, was the fact that some of the recently-renovated roads in the city were flooded, leaving pedestrians and two-wheeler riders fumbling through ankle-deep water. Apparently, the drainage system leaves a lot to be desired.
