VISAKHAPATNAM: A thief triggered panic in the railway station here on Friday by opening fire suddenly. Subsequently, he escaped from the place while police caught his associate.In the evening, the duo went to the parking lot in the railway station and tried to start a bike, which had been left by them there for the last five days, when police caught one of them.The man nabbed by the police then asked his companion to open fire at police but the latter shot in the air and fled the scene.Sources said a security guard in the parking lot at the railway station had taken the issue of the bike lying unclaimed to the notice of police earlier. Commissioner of Police, J Purnachandra Rao who rushed to the spot, said the duo were accused in various cases like chain snatching and theft of bikes in the city. The duo stole a two-wheeler from Bheemili and parked it in the railway station on Dec 2, he said.Sources said the thief who opened fire worked as a CISF constable. The duo do not belong to the state, sources added.
