Toxic Lakes in Bengaluru Can Be Revived in 18 Months, Says IISC
Prof TV Ramachandra and his team from Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) Bengaluru, presented the immediate steps to be followed to reclaim the Bellandur and Varthur lakes.

With froth returning to haunt the Bellandur and Varthur lakes, a team of experts have come up with suggestions like immediate stoppage of industrial effluents and untreated sewage, and the process to be taken on war-footing not just to save the lake but also the nearby residents.

Prof TV Ramachandra and his team from Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) Bengaluru, presented the immediate steps to be followed to reclaim the Bellandur and Varthur lakes.

Speaking to CNN-News18, Professor said, "The group called Eco-Battalion have done a lot of afforestation and Ganga cleaning work. If they take it up, there is advantage that they will do it in time, less cost and no contamination."

"I would say the defense forces should take the initiative and our children will get clean air to breathe. And if we are able to give them that, our generation has done their job", Ramachandra added.

Ramachandra's team from IISc, army personnel from Madras Engineering Group (MEG), along with the support of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) like Whitefield Rising and the Bellandur Rise group, had released the bathymetric (study of underwater depth of lake or ocean floors) survey of these lakes earlier this year.
