Residents of Malegaon in Maharashtra’s Nashik were taken aback when an ‘underwear’ gang broke into a home and a college in the area last night and stole around 70 gm gold — worth nearly Rs 5 lakh — and bananas.
The incident was captured on CCTV camera and the thieves were spotted wearing vests and underwear and breaking into the premises. The ‘chaddi baniyan’ gang as popularly known has conducted over a series if attacks in several other parts of the country.
The members of the gang typically loot houses and carry out crimes while wearing underwear and sometimes even carry sharp weapons to scare their targets. According to an NDTV report, it is still not clear if the several groups committing such robberies are connected, or the ‘underwear’ attacks are just a way to mislead investigators.
The gang’s attack in Malegaon came just after robberies by a ‘gown’ gang. They were caught on CCTV cameras dressed in women’s gowns and while they targetted several homes in Malegaon last week. The thieves were seen armed with sharp weapons and they reportedly stole money from the donation box in a temple.
