Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled the public holiday on the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshiram on October 9. A circular has been issued to all the district magistrates in the state in this regard, official sources said on Saturday.
In fact, Azamgarh DM Pranjal Yadav on Saturday issued a statement and said that the state government has cancelled public holiday on the occasion of death anniversary of Kanshiram under Negotiable Instrument Act 1881 with immediate effect.
The previous Mayawati government had announced October 9 as the public holiday after coming to power. Meanwhile, BSP has reacted strongly against the Uttar Pradesh government's move of cancelling public holiday on the death anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram on October 9.
"It is yet another example of the anti-dalit sentiments of the government," leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha Swami Prasad Maurya said. Terming the move as an "unnecessary" one, Maurya said that the government should desist from showing disrespect to greatmen. The BSP has also planned a massive rally in Lucknow on October 9.
