Uttar Pradesh on Friday reported 20 more coronavirus deaths and its biggest single-day spike of 536 new cases, officials said. The death toll in the state now is 365, with the coronavirus tally reaching 12,616.
Principal Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said 7,609 of the total infected have recovered. The state has 4,642 active COVID-19 cases. The recovery rate in the state is now over 60 per cent, he said.
A total of 15,607 samples were tested in the state on Thursday, which is so far the highest in a day, Prasad said, adding that altogether 4,19,994 tests have been done in the state.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to expedite developmental schemes in the state. All Divisional Commissioners have been ordered to visit the districts of their divisions with District Magistrates and review the construction work. Adityanath also said officials should ensure adequate availability of materials related to construction work.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi said Adityanath has directed all District Magistrates to inspect Covid-19 and other hospitals and their situation as well as inquire about the well-being of patients.
Adityanath has instructed that new teams be sent to sensitive districts of Agra, Meerut, Firozabad, Moradabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Jhansi and Basti. The teams will include an officer of Principal Secretary or Secretary level and another of the level of Additional Director or Joint Director from Health Department. Both the officers will inspect these districts and monitor the health system.
