HYDERABAD: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao has said that the election results in five states should serve as an eye opener for the Congress and hoped that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi the party would recover past glory in the 2014 general elections. He urged the party cadre to dedicate themselves to strengthen Rahul Gandhi's leadership. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Hanumantha Rao said that the results of these elections were the people's verdict against corruption. "In Uttar Pradesh Congress' base was eroded since the 80s. The party gave tickets to those who came from other parties. All these factors led to the debacle of the party,'' he said. He appreciated Rahul Gandhi for owning up responsibility for the debacle.
