ANGUL: Tension prevailed as over hundred agitators on Saturday laid siege to the JSPL plant at Nisha here. The district administration is yet to intervene to break the stalemate between the company and the villagers. The Wednesday clash at the site left 160 injured and stalled the ongoing construction work. The villagers were peeved over the company’s decision to stop the monthly job allowances of Rs 2,700 to Rs 4,000 to land losers. The affected, belonging to 20 villages, have formed a new body, Birankeswar Khyatigrastha Praja Samiti. They are demanding a cash compensation of Rs 25 lakh per acre, a permanent job to each family and a job card. They also submitted a memorandum with their demands to the local ADM, Debraj Senapati since the collector was on leave. They have given the administration two days to look into their demands failing which they will intensify the stir.Meanwhile, JSPL Executive Director Rajesh Jha has appealed to the villagers to reach a consensus through talks.
