BANGALORE: If you are expecting to improve engineering education quality, check this. Many of the principals of engineering colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) are from nonengineering background. Thanks to the VTU authority, which is allowing such principals, violating the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) norms.
The Local Inquiry Committee (LIC), which submitted their report to VTU, reveals that many engineering colleges, both private and government, affiliated to the university do not have qualified principals. It says that principals from these colleges have Master of Science in Chemistry, Applied Geology and Mathematics.The report says that the principal from the Sri Basaveshwar Institute of Technology at Tiptur in Tumkur district, is not qualified as per AICTE norms. Interestingly, LIC report of the previous also stressed on the same matter. Principal from the Rural engineering college, Hulkoti, Gadag is also from science background.
