In view of the rough weather conditions, the meteorological department has forecast wet weather till Tuesday evening

Heavy and incessant rainfall lashed Jammu and Kashmir over the past three days leading the water level in rivers and other water bodies across the state to rise. According to officials, a danger warning was issued for the Pohru Nallah in Kupwara district. However, the water level in many water bodies of the valley, including the Jhelum river, is still below the alert mark.

As a precautionary measure in view of the rising water level in rivers and stream, the authorities in Kashmir have also announced closure of all schools in the valley on Tuesday.  The University of Kashmir has also postponed all examinations that were scheduled to be held on Tuesday. In view of the rough weather conditions, the meteorological department has forecast wet weather till Tuesday evening.

An order to suspend classes in all schools up to the higher secondary level on Tuesday, was also issued by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir. The step has been taken as a precautionary measure in view on the incessant rainfall, the order stated.

Earlier on Sunday, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) rescued dozens of passengers whose vehicles got stuck in snowfall on Bandipora-Gurez Road in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said that the BRO personnel swung into action as soon as they got the information about 35 vehicles that had been stuck on storm-hit Razdan Pass.

The officials further said that the BRO team first ensured the safety of the passengers and drivers before taking out their vehicles to safety.

The road has been closed temporarily due to fresh spell of snowfall in Gurez valley and along the mountainous areas of Bandipora district.
