Kolkata: In a shocking incident, class I student was thrown out of school after testing positive for HIV.

The incident happened at a high school in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal in June.

School authorities clamped the bar on the student after a section of guardians of other students raised objections about the child's presence in school. The order was imposed even after an AIDS awareness programme by the government was held in the school where school authorities and guardians were assured that the disease is not contagious.

The victim's mother is also an HIV positive patient and works with a government agency to spread awareness about the disease. She claimed that the school authorities has initially assured full support to the boy but later backed out under pressure from the other guardians.
