CHENNAI: Accusing the Centre of step-motherly treatment to Tamil Nadu while being indulgent to its ally in West Bengal, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday said, “While the Centre has not even released a single rupee as assistance to debt-ridden Tamil Nadu, it has allocated a special assistance of a whopping `21,614 crore to West Bengal, ruled by a party which is a constituent partner of the government at the Centre.”Explaining the reason for the hike in bus fare and milk price, the CM said while the DMK’s misrule in the past five years had pushed PSUs to near-collapse, the Centre ignored the State’s request for special assistance and for supply of 1,000 MW of power to cope with shortage.“You gave me a massive mandate in the April 13...elections and I waited six months to get minimal assistance from the Centre to set things right in TN. Since the Centre has adopted a step-motherly attitude and ignored the State, where can I go for help? My dear people, please accept this unavoidable hike and cooperate with the government,” she said in her 20-minute speech on Jaya TV
