New Delhi: WikiLeaks is down. The domain name for the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks.org has been taken down by its Domain Name System (DNS) provider EveryDNS.net.

WikiLeaks has confirmed the news in a post on Twitter. "WikiLeaks, org domain killed by US everydns.net after claimed mass attacks KEEP US STRONG https://donations.datacell.com/," the tweet said.

EveryDNS said in a statement that it dropped the website late Thursday because the attacks threatened the rest of its network.

A tweet posted on the @dyninc Twitter account said, "24 hours ago we made a decision we believe is in the best interest of our users and customers. Please read: http://everydns.net."

Earlier Amazon.com had stopped hosting the WikiLeaks website, which published sensitive classified US government information.

But Amazon denied that their action was a result of pressure from lawmakers.

"There have been reports that a government inquiry prompted us not to serve WikiLeaks any longer. That is inaccurate," the company said in a statement.

The website is meanwhile accessible through an alternate domain name, http://wikileaks.ch.
