Shimoga: Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa said that he would meet the Governor in a couple of days to apprise him of the need to pass the ‘pro-poor’ Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill- 2012, seeking regularisation of houses built on government land in rural areas. This is because the Governor has returned the Bill to the government for reconsideration. Eshwarappa told reporters at his residence here on Tuesday: “I have read the news that the Governor has returned the Bill. But I did not get the copy of his message on his concerns that the amendment of the Bill would lead to illegal grabbing of government land.”
He clarified that the Bill is intended to provide title deeds to the poor in rural areas. If the poor did not get the title deeds to the sites, they would not get government facilities. “I would meet the Governor and request Already, it was discussed with Ramaswamy and action has been taken to clear the encroached government land in Bangalore. He would also discuss with Balasubramanyam to take action against land grabbers in Bangalore, he added.
He also said that the Bill was passed in both the Houses unanimously and opposition parties have also welcomed this move to ensure title deeds for the rural poor. The Bill is aimed at regularising government sites on which houses have been built in rural areas. However, there are certain conditions like the beneficiary should not have a house or site in any part of the country and should be a BPL family.
He added that the government would not evict any bagair hukum farmers unless the confusion of the ownership of land between the Forest Department and Revenue Department is cleared. According to him, some Congress and JD(S) leaders have been politicising the issue. He also said there is a confusion regarding the ownership of the land between the Forest and Revenue Departments.
