Accusing PM Manmohan Singh of supporting Tamil Nadu and bias against Karnataka, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is protesting the release of Cauvery water said that he was hopeful of justice to the state.
Here are excerpts of his interview with Express:
Is the state govt supporting your protest?
CM Jagadish Shettar has neither met me or spoken to me over the phone. Only a few MLAs met me on Friday.
What about your plans to undertake a padayatra from Bangalore to Mandya?
My legs have swollen and the doctor has advised me not to go on a padayatra. Besides, on Monday, the Supreme Court is expected to take up an appeal filed by Karnataka seeking a stay on directive of the PM to release 9,000 cusecs of water to TN. Till then, I will wait and watch.
Did the Centre delay sending an expert committee to Karnataka?
Yes, the PM deliberately delayed dispatching the expert team. If Singh was that concerned, he should have sent it before directing Karnataka to release water to TN. After the people of the state took to streets, the PM sent the team which clearly indicates that it was done only to favour TN CM Jayalalithaa.
What can our MPs do in the current situation?
Twenty eight MPs from various political parties have been elected to Lok Sabha. Irrespective of their parties, the MPs should have threatened to submit resignations to pressure the PM. If the same situation arose in TN, then Jayalalithaa would have asked all the MPs to resign.
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has written a letter to the PM.....
Krishna is a former CM. At a crucial time, it does not make any sense for a Union minister to write from USA extending his support.
Is the Centre biased?
The Congress wants Jayalalithaa’s support so that the UPA government does not collapse. PM is trying to please the TN CM. The Centre has asked us to release 9,000 cusecs of water, we are releasing more.
How grave is the situation in the state?
Situation is going out of control. If this continues, it will be difficult to maintain law.
