The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) which has a poor human rights record has been slapped with another slur. A woman from Paikamal block of Deogarh on Wednesday accused the men in uniform of outraging her modesty and creating terror in the region.
The woman lodged a complaint with State Commission for Women after local police took no action. She has demanded arrest of the guilty CRPF men.
The incident allegedly occurred on July 24 when the 18-year-old, newly married, was going to fetch water. A resident of Bindhyabasinipara, she was surrounded by a group of about 11 CRPF jawans at around 10 am. For last several years, CRPF has been camping in Paikamal.
In her petition, she said, the CRPF men abused her and tried to outrage her modesty. When she lodged a complaint, a CRPF team, led by an officer, came to her house to probe and persuaded her to arrive at a compromise. She alleged that her house was besieged and not a single lady CRPF personnel was in the team that came to probe. In fact, local police officers were also there.
The woman further alleged that the incident created terror in the area and attempts are being made to suppress it.
Demanding arrest and suspension of the CRPF men, the woman has sought compensation too.
