State Women’s Commission member J Prameela Devi said the Commission would begin pre-marital counselling in the state.
She was speaking after inaugurating the adalat at the collectorate conference hall here on Wednesday.
“In the first stage, the counselling will be held in Thiruvananthapuram. Later, it will be expanded to other districts. A decision in this regard was taken based on a report that the problems among the couples who attend counselling before marriage are comparatively less,” she said.
“The education or economic situation did not affect the relation between husband and wife. The problems are more in educated societies.
“Campaigns will be needed to make a change in the situation. The commission will hold seminars and jagrata samitis across the state,” Prameela said.
“The commission will conduct adalats every month in all districts. The pending complaints will be settled soon. A proposal put forward by the SWC to distribute pension to the housewife is under the consideration of the state government,” she said.
The Commission settled 24 complaints on Wednesday. Around 60 applications were received and 48 parties were present at the sitting. Commission director Jacob Job attended the sitting.
