New Delhi: Not too many actresses get to go to Cannes early in their career to showcase a film with festival regulars like Irrfan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. But then, model-actress Nimrat Kaur isn't your usual Hindi film heroine.
The lady, who has been making several hearts flutter with her Cabury Silk ad, will soon be seen in Ritesh Batra's 'Lunchbox' opposite Irrfan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film which was adjudged as the Breakout Film at the prestigious Cannes film festival earlier this year, has already started garnering good reviews from those who have seen it back home. While most aren't surprised by the superlative performance that Irrfan and Nawazuddin have delivered, new face Nimrat Kaur has surely made everyone get up and notice. So how did she get 'Lunchbox' in the first place? "I think Ritesh was looking for someone to cast in Ela's role and he had seen my work in 'Peddlers' and decided to cast me in his film."
Nimrat, who had visited Cannes last year with 'Peddlers', states that the response that 'Lunchbox' got this year was "overwhelming". "I was introduced there as the modern day Charulata, which was a huge compliment. It is one thing to go and promote a film and it is another thing to go with a film which is competing," says Nimrat.
A popular face in the Mumbai theatre circuit and in the advertising world, Nimrat is honest that she can't be too choosy about the roles that come to her. "You don't always get the right kind of films. Work chooses you" says Nimrat. "Besides I wanted to do theatre to learn acting. You can't learn acting through commercials. Theatre teaches you a lot and lets you collaborate with great minds," says the Delhi girl.
Nimrat, who has now worked in three films states that she would want to do commercial films in the near future. But wouldn't films like 'Peddlers' and 'Lunchbox' typecast her? " I have hardly done much work. The risk of getting typecast is always there but I am still very new. I'd want to break it once that situation comes."
As of now, Nimrat is gearing up to travel with the cast and crew of 'Lunchbox' to various film festivals across the world before it releases in India. When asked as to who she thinks is a better actor-Irrfan or Nawazuddin, Nimrat says "It is not right to compare the two of them. Both are very self assured as actors. And it is such a delight to watch them. In fact, it's like a tennis match. You can't decide who to watch. Nawazuddin is one actor to look out for. He hasn't done as much work as Irrfan but what an impact he has had. His presence is actually overwhelming, while Irrfan is someone whom I find very intelligent. You know you can learn a lot by just observing him at work. So not fair to compare the two actors," adds Nimrat.
Nimrat's film 'Lunchbox' has been directed by Ritesh Batra and produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga along with Arun Rangachari and will be released on 20 September , 2013 in India.
