ROURKELA: The authorities of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) have come under fire from Youth Congress workers for inordinate delay in setting up a permanent campus here.A protest meeting was staged on Tuesday in front of the temporary office of BPUT on the UGIE campus by the Youth Congress members. A memorandum addressed to the Governor was also sent through a staff of the Vice-Chancellor office. The agitators, led by Youth Congress president for Sundargarh Lok Sabha constituency Shree Kumar Nair and presidents of Rourkela and RN Pali Assembly constituencies Rashmi Ranjan Padhi and Dilip Naik flayed the authorities and Naveen Government for failing to complete the campus works even nine years after its inauguration. Rourkela District Congress president Nihar Ray and a host of senior Congress leaders took serious note of running a parallel office at Bhubaneswar to conduct all important transactions and reducing the temporary office at Rourkela for postal operations. They regretted the fact that conduct of examinations of engineering, MBA, MCA and Pharmaceutical programmes are being haphazardly controlled from Bhubaneswar to mount woes of thousands of students. They also charged senior functionaries with not caring for the institute’s future and staying at Bhubaneswar though they are needed at Rourkela.Nair also threatened to launch a stir if the authorities failed to fully operationalise the Rourkela campus at the earliest.
