After months of speculation surrounding BLACKPINK’s Lisa Manobal acting debut, it has now been confirmed that she’s joining the cast of HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3, according to reports from Variety. The upcoming season, set to commence production in February, will be shot in the picturesque locations of Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok. While specific details about Manobal’s role and the plot remain under wraps, what’s known is that the story will introduce a fresh set of guests at another White Lotus property. Interestingly, Manobal has now become the second member of BLACKPINK to star in an HBO series. Previously, Jennie Ruby Jane made her acting debut in the controversial drama The Idol featuring Lily Rose Depp, The Weeknd, Rachel Sennott and others, which premiered in June 2023.
Lisa is set to join an already star studded cast, which includes Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Francesca Corney, Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Christian Friedel, Scott Glenn, Walton Goggins, Dom Hetrakul, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Julian Kostov, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, Morgana O’Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Shalini Peiris, Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tayme Thapthimthong, and Aimee Lou Wood. The K-Pop artist’s addition further raises anticipation for the upcoming season.
Notably, Jennifer Coolidge, the standout performer of the show, won’t be part of Season 3 as her character said goodbye in the last season. Talking about the upcoming season, Coolidge openly shared in a Today interview that she feels jealousy towards the new cast.
She said, “I’m jealous of everyone that’s going. I just want to stress that I’m not a good sport about it, but there’s nothing I can do. When they kill you, you have to accept it. Because it means they’re not calling for your costume sizes or anything. It’s over. I have to get another thing. I have to make another thing happen, I guess. But am I sad? I just want to say in all honesty, I’m very sad I’m not in it. I think (Season 3) is going to be good. There’s going to be all sorts of good stuff in it, probably great sex stuff. It’s never, never a dull moment.”
The White Lotus Season 3 is created, written and directed by Mike White, in collaboration with executive producers David Bernad and Mark Kamine. HBO has teamed up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand for the promotion of the upcoming season. While the new season will be shot in Thailand, the first season was set in Hawaii and second was shot in Sicily. The debut season in 2021 received 20 Emmy nominations and ten wins, securing the title of best limited or anthology series. On the other hand, the second season, which premiered in December 2022, continued the success with 23 Emmy nominations and won five awards.
