The auspicious occasion of Budh Ashtami will fall on September 28 and will go on till September 29. The day, as the name suggests, falls on a Wednesday. Ashtami as per the Hindu vedic calendar means the eighth day that falls either in Krishna Paksha or Shukla Paksha of any calendar month. The Budh Ashtami muhurat will begin from 6:17 pm on September 28 and will end at 8:30 pm on September 29.
On this pious occasion, many Hindu believers pray to Budh graha. As a part of the day’s ritual, the devotees keep the Budh Ashtami Vrat for seeking the lord’s blessings.
It is believed that those who keep this fast with utmost devotion and dedication attain salvation. The devotees also pray to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva on this day. Further, those Hindus whose Budh grah or Mercury is weak in horoscope are also advised to observe this fast so that they can get rid of the grah dosh.
In order to successfully complete the Budh Ashtami Vrat, the devotee has to wake up early in the morning during the Brahma Muhurat and need to bathe during that hour. After that, they have to do a sankalp for keeping the fast with dedication. During the shubh muhurat of the day, the pooja needs to be performed and the Budh Ashtami story needs to be recited. After completion of all rituals, bhog is offered and prasad is distributed among people.
The bhog offered on the day is of a special kind and is known as Naivedya. This dish includes dry fruits, flowers, green coconut and gangajal. This needs to be kept in the puja area. The Budh grah is then worshiped by placing an idol or by inscribing him on a gold or silver coin. This vrat needs to be done eight times in a year. After the eighth fast is successfully completed, the coin with Budh inscription has to be donated to a Brahmin.
