In today’s world where fashion is a statement, a subtle touch of softness is emerging as the new style language. Pastels, with their gentle shades and delicate charm, are making a comeback in the fashion world, captivating fashion enthusiasts and influencing their wardrobe choices. Pastels are now being embraced in everyday dresses, tops, blouses, frilled dresses, and skirts, and are changing the way we dress and express ourselves.
Neeraj Singh, Head of Design, Fashinza, says, “Gone are the days when everyday dresses were solely defined by their practicality. Today, they serve as a canvas for self-expression, and pastels are leading the way. Soft shades of blush, lavender, and powder blue adorn flowing silhouettes, offering a subtle yet striking alternative to traditional neutrals. Dresses typically refer to casual dresses that are comfortable and versatile enough to wear in various daily activities, such as running errands, going to work, or meeting friends. These dresses often prioritize comfort and ease of movement while still being stylish.”
Singh also added, “Tops and blouses are undergoing a pastel transformation, infusing wardrobes with a breath of fresh air. From crisp cotton button-downs to billowy chiffon blouses, pastel tones add a touch of sophistication to any ensemble. Soft pink ruffles, pale yellow peplums, and sky blue camisoles create a sense of whimsy and romance, elevating everyday looks with ease. These solid or printed-coloured tops and blouses serve as excellent foundation pieces for building a versatile and stylish wardrobe. You can easily mix and match them with other items to create a variety of looks for different occasions.”
Frill dresses, with their feminine flourishes and playful details, are experiencing a revival in the world of fashion. Pastel hues lend themselves beautifully to this trend, enhancing the whimsical allure of frills and ruffles. Soft pastel frill dresses evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance, reminiscent of carefree days and summer soirées. The continued reign of frill dresses on the Copenhagen catwalks underscores their enduring popularity and versatility.
These dresses, highlighted in our Minimalist Futures Design, play a central role in the Day to Night trend, thanks to their textured fabrics and adaptable styling. Here’s how we can build on this trend for a contemporary and chic look.
“Skirts, long revered as a symbol of femininity and grace, are embracing the softness of pastels with open arms. Flowing maxi skirts in shades of mint green, lavender, and peach exude effortless elegance, offering a dreamy alternative to structured silhouettes. Pastel pleated skirts add a touch of whimsy to everyday ensembles, while pastel midi skirts elevate office attire with their refined sophistication,” mentions Neeraj Singh.
Paired with a simple tee or a tailored blazer, pastel skirts effortlessly blend comfort and style, making them a wardrobe essential for fashion enthusiasts everywhere.
In the ever-evolving canvas of fashion, trends ebb and flow with each passing season. Yet amidst these changes, there’s timeless fascination for the softgirl aesthetic and the resurgence of light pastel shades. More than just a colour palette, this trend signifies a proud cultural shift towards embracing femininity, fluidity, and tranquillity in design.
“Pastels give out an innate sense of elegance and sophistication, infusing any ensemble with a refreshing and youthful vibe. From the silver screens of classic early 20s movies to the contemporary Barbie movie that came out in 2023, shades like pinks, blues, yellows, and lilacs have meandered through the corridors of fashion. Whether it’s Y2K trends or the whimsical allure of Barbiecore or Balletcore, pastels have found their place in suits, dresses, accessories, and statement pieces alike, “says Simran Lalwani, Creative Director, Ostilos.
Lalwani further went onto add, “What sets this resurgence apart is the discerning eye for quality pastel shades. Brands and consumers alike have come to appreciate the subtle nuances between mediocre and exceptional pastel tones. It’s not merely about colour; it’s about conveying an emotion— one that is approachable, safe, and grounded. This season, hands down, the prettiest tones are – pink, muted yellow, powder blue, gentle green, peach and lilac.”
