To maintain a fresh look even on hot and muggy days, it’s crucial to understand how to keep makeup from melting

In humid conditions, women often face challenges with their daily makeup routines, including melting foundation, sticky skin, and sweat trickling down their faces. These issues typically arise from using large amounts of makeup and applying thick layers of products. To maintain a fresh look even on hot and muggy days, it’s crucial to understand how to keep makeup from melting.

Avleen Bansal, Head of Training, Moira, emphasizes the importance of proper skin prep and product selection to ensure that makeup stays in place. “Priming the skin has become one of the most important elements in a cosmetic routine to guarantee that the makeup resists humidity and stays smudge-proof,” says Bansal. She recommends avoiding heavy concealers and moisturizers, and instead opting for lightweight products to create a breathable base. Applying waterproof products like eyeliner, concealer, and mascara is also essential for long-lasting makeup in humid conditions.

Hitesh Dewett, Brand Trainer, Anastasia Beverly Hills India, echoes the importance of prepping the skin properly. “Begin by cleansing your skin to ensure that you have a clean canvas for your makeup,” advises Dewett. Cleansing removes dirt and bacteria, promoting skin health and preventing breakouts. Hydrate your skin with a lightweight, non-sticky moisturizer to avoid a cakey or patchy finish. Using a mattifying primer can control excess oil and shine, helping to prevent makeup from separating.

Bansal also suggests using less eyeshadow and opting for a simple look to enhance overall makeup durability. “To avoid creasing and create a smooth base, start with an eyeshadow primer. Use sparingly and select finely milled matte or satin eyeshadows for a natural look,” she says. This step ensures that eyeshadow stays in place without accumulating in the creases.

For blush, liquid formulas are ideal for humid conditions as they blend seamlessly into the skin and provide a natural-looking flush. Bansal advises against applying too much product to maintain a fresh, dewy complexion throughout the day.

Dewett emphasizes the importance of incorporating water-resistant products into your routine to ensure longevity and prevent makeup from melting or smearing. “Water-resistant mascaras and concealers hold up better in humid conditions and do not smudge due to sweating,” he explains. Applying just the right amount of concealer and setting it with translucent powder can help your makeup look smooth and blurred, preventing cream-based products from moving due to heat and humidity.

Both experts agree on the final step: using a setting spray. “Setting sprays rehydrate your skin and make sure that makeup looks well blended,” says Dewett. The chemicals in setting sprays form a protective layer over your makeup, preventing it from smudging or moving.

To keep your makeup looking fresh all day, Dewett suggests carrying some tissue or blotting paper to absorb excess oil without removing makeup. “Avoid using compact powder for frequent touch-ups as it can cause your makeup to look patchy and dry,” he adds. Instead, you can use a setting spray to freshen up and re-energize your look.

By following these essential steps, you can ensure your makeup appears natural and holds up in humid environments. Always consider how makeup will react to the weather and adjust your routine based on products that work best for your skin type. With these tips, you can put your best face forward this monsoon season!
