Italian chef Massimo Bottura and France's Troisgros family are among some of the big winners of an international culinary awards program that recognizes the most influential players and trendsetters in the world of high gastronomy.
Bottura, a household name on the international culinary circuit, received the International Eckart Witzigmann Award for Innovation for his ability to tell stories through his food.
His Modena restaurant Osteria Francescana holds three Michelin stars.
According to the jury: "Bottura offers a deeply humanistic cuisine at the highest level that recognises and respects tradition and uses the latest techniques to create a poetic experience for all the senses. No one pursues this concept as consistently as he does."
In the category of 'Art of Cookery' the Troisgros family was singled out for defying the trends and surviving the test of time to maintain three Michelin stars at Maison Troisgros since 1968. The Roanne restaurant in central France serves seasonal, cosmopolitan cuisine.
Noma restaurant co-founder Claus Meyer of Denmark also received the Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment award for his work fighting poverty through gastronomy and food.
The International Eckart Witzigmann Award recognizes outstanding achievements in fine dining and is named after the Austrian-born chef who was described as "chef of the century" by French restaurant guide Gault Millau.
