Every once in a while, an actor breaks barriers and exceeds expectations with their performance. However, in the cut-throat world of Bollywood, these actors don’t always get their due.
Today, we will be recommending some amazing films, which were taken to the next level due to fantastic performances. However, many of these talented artists are still underrated and deserve more work, success and fame.
Shashank Arora in Titli
In the gripping drama Titli, Shashank Arora shone through an ensemble of seasoned actors. The actor displayed a range of emotions as a man caught in a dysfunctional and dangerous family. It is a drama where nothing you expect happens, making it an edge-of-the-seat watch. Shashank is also the first actor to have two films, Titli and Brahman Naman, compete at the Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Toronto and Locarno film festivals.
Radhika Madan in Patakha
Actress Radhika Madan might have made a successful transition from TV to films, but we want to see her leading more films. The actress made her debut with Vishal Bhardwaj’s Pataakha, where she shared the screen with Saanya Malhotra. They played two sisters who are at each other’s throats. While we knew Saanya’ prowess with her other performances, Radhika exceeded everyone’s expectations when she transformed into her character of a raw, noisy and robust woman, who along with her sister, fights their fate.
Tillotama Shome and Rasika Dugal in Qissa
When it comes to Qissa, there is no way we can mention one against the other. Both the actors brought in an unprecedented power to their respective performances. Qissa also stars an unbelievably brilliant Irrfan Khan, but the film belongs to Tilottama and Rasika. A heart-wrenching watch, Qissa is the story of one man’s decision to change his destiny and one girl’s journey of facing repercussions for her father’s actions. Both Rasika and Tilottama have done a few interesting projects recently, but they are still criminally underrated when it comes to their full potential.
Vikarnt Massey in A Death in the Gunj
Vikrant Massey has proved time and again that he is a chameleon on screen. The man can do any role he takes up, and do it well. He has recently started getting lead roles with Chapaak and Ginny Weds Sunny but his best performance is undoubtedly as Shutu or Shyamal Chatterjee in A Death in the Gunj. A near-perfect directorial debut, the film boasts of a gripping and layered storyline and a great cast. However, Vikrant leads the film with so much conviction that he outshines everyone else on the screen. A Death in the Gunj is one of the best films to have come out of Hindi cinema in the last decades and should be watched by everyone if they haven’t already. As for Vikrant Massey, he needs to be offered better scripts so that he can realise his full potential as a lead actor.
Patralekhaa in CityLights
The actress, who made her debut with Hansal Mehta’s CityLights made her most memorable performance yet, in the film. The heartfelt story of a poor couple that comes to Mumbai in search of a livelihood is more relevant than ever. Both Patralekhaa and Rajkummar Rao played off of each other’ strengths to take the film to the next level. However despite having so much talent, the actress has been overlooked when it comes to good scripts and promising films. Her relationship with Rajkummar Rao also gets more media attention than her talent, which is casual sexism at best. The actress definitely deserves more films and web shows and that too in a lead role.
Arjun Mathur in Brij Mohan Amar Rahe
Arjun Mathur might have received the love and appreciation for his role in Made in Heaven, but his performance in Brij Mohan Amar Rahe is actually his breakthrough performance. The actor brought his A-game to this dark comedy. From being a philandering and conniving crook who fakes his own death, to being a helpless victim of his own schemes, the actor made this film much more entertaining than it could have been. Arjun is always shining in the OTT space, but Bollywood tends to overlook him. The actor remains underrated despite being nominated for an International Emmy Award. If that is not unfair, we don’t know what is!
