Liberty Productions, a renowned Malayalam film production company, is making a comeback to the industry after an 18-year hiatus. Well-known for producing and distributing successful films such as Abkari, Inspector Balram, Nairsaab, Vartamanakalam, Poochkaru Manikettum, Balram vs Tharadas, and handling the distribution of movies like Bada Dost and Kashcha, Liberty Productions has played a significant role in the Malayalam film landscape.
Owned by veteran film producer Liberty Basheer, the production house is set to return with a new project after its last film, Balram vs Tharadas, released in 2006. The upcoming film, directed by Manikanthan Pattambi and Salim Hasan, known for their work on the popular serial Marimayam, and currently involved in the film Panchayat Jetty, signifies a promising return for Liberty Productions to filmmaking.
Liberty Basheer has announced that more details about the film will be disclosed soon, and the production house is also initiating new film projects, with initial operations already in progress. This comeback is anticipated to be a significant development in the Malayalam film industry.
Panchayat Jetty, directed by Manikandan Pattambi and Salim Hassan, is being produced by Sapta Tarang Creations Private Limited in collaboration with Govind Films. The film’s mahurat was scheduled for December 18, and it features a notable cast, including Salim Hassan, Niaz Bakar, Vinod Kovoor, Unniraj, Mani Shornoor, Riaz, and others.
The 2006 Malayalam-language action film Balram vs Tharadas, directed by IV Sasi and written by T. Damodaran and SN Swamy, stars Mammootty in a dual role alongside Katrina Kaif, Mukesh, and Siddique. Serving as a crossover sequel to the Malayalam films Athirathram and Inspector Balram, the movie sees Mammootty reprising the roles of police officer Balram and underworld don Tharadas. These characters were originally portrayed in the 1991 film Inspector Balram and its prequel Aavanazhi, as well as 1984’s Athirathram. Notably, this film marks the only appearance of Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif in Malayalam cinema.
