From TV Actor To Pan-India Fame With KGF, A Look Into Yash’s Inspiring Journey
Yash struggled in the industry for close to 15 years, before he was able to break through into the pan-India scene.

If there was any character that dominated the Indian cinema in 2022, it was Rocky Bhai from KGF: Chapter 2. Actor Yash received newfound fame with this character, which is being idolised by many all over the country. The character was introduced by the original KGF film in 2018, it was not before the sequel released that Yash became a national phenomenon. Now, Yash is going to be seen in Kannada as well as Bollywood films. Along with Nitish Tiwari’s Ramayana, Yash is also going to do a movie with Shah Rukh Khan, according to a Hindustan Times report. But it took some while for the actor to be put on a pedestal. Yash struggled in the industry for close to 15 years, before he was able to break through into the pan-India scene. Today, let’s take a look at a cinematic journey.

Born on January 8, 1986 as Naveen Kumar Gowda, Yash started his career with Kannada TV serials in the early 2000s. At first, his father wanted him to be a government officer. His parents didn’t support his desire to pursue acting. They finally gave up in 2003 and let him relocate to Bangalore at the age of sixteen to work as an assistant director on a movie. After just two days of filming, the project was cancelled, but Yash remained in Bangalore. Yash eventually worked as a background performer. Then he got the part of Balarama, a lead role in a play in 2004. He finished his Bachelor’s degree in arts from KLE College in Bangalore, while continuing to work in theatre. In the same year, he made his television debut on the teleserial Uttarayana.

After making a name for himself on TV, Yash started his film journey in 2007 with the Kannada film Jambada Hudugi. Yash’s breakout performance came in the 2008 romance movie Moggina Manasu, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Rocky, his first major motion picture in which he played the lead, was a box office disaster and earned negative reviews. He then went on to make a string of financially successful romance films. In 2012, he was nominated for his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Yash did 20 films before KGF: Chapter 1. The KGF films largely played an instrumental role in catapulting him to the top league of actors. Today, he is considered among the biggies of the South industries, even getting to share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in an upcoming film. He will also be seen in Kannada film titled Toxic, which is directed by Geethu Mohandas.
