Neeraj Ghaywan, the director of one of the best films of 2015 'Masaan' is elated with his win at the 63rd National Awards. Ghaywan has been announced as the winner of Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Director for the poetic, sublime film featuring Richa Chadda, Vicky Kaushal, Shweta Tripathi and Sanjai Mishra.
Talking to IBNLive.com, the director said, "I can't explain my feelings right now. It is great honour to be recognised at the National Award platform and I am happy 'Masaan' has been able to acheive it."
Calling it a team effort the director thanked his crew and actors for bringing a heart-touching story closer to people's heart.
"I have immense amount of respect for my producers, Drishyam films and other who trusted the story and helped it reach this stage right now"
Ghaywan is proud that 'Masaan' has appealed to the critics and audience alike. "After winning at Cannes, nobody thought that it would get similar response back home. It won commercial awards as well and this national award announcement is like a cherry on the cake," said the director who is currently researching for his next project.
So, does this recognition inspires him to make more such films in future? Ghaywan answers, "Ofcourse! However I won't let this win affect my ideas in general. I have always wanted to make film with honesty and I will keep doing so."
Calling it a big win for Neeraj Ghaywan, 'Masaan' actress Shweta Tripathi had all kind words for her director. She says, "Neeraj truly deserves this award. He is a calm and composed director. Whenever 'Masaan' gets recognisation on a big platform it is a triumph for the entire team and for all small good films around the nation."
Interestingly, 'Masaan' writer Varun Grover won best lyrics award for 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' son 'Moh Moh Dhage'. On this win Tripathi commented, "Varun and Neeraj are not only excellent in their crafts, they are good human beings too. I'm extremely happy for both of them."
