Netflix dropped a picture of Heeramandi director Sanjay Leela Bhansali with CEO Ted Sarandos, as they hosted a grand dinner party in Los Angeles.

Netflix went all out to promote Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar in the international market. Before its premiere, a special screening was held at the prestigious Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, which was attended by top Hollywood personalities and content creators. The event also featured a Q&A session with Bhansali, hosted by Lily Singh. Now that the series is out, Netflix dropped a picture of Bhansali with CEO Ted Sarandos, as they hosted a grand dinner party in the director’s honour. That’s not all, as the special night was also attended by Ali Wong, Bill Hader, Star Wars producer JJ Abrams, filmmaker Katie McGrath, Netflix Chairman Dan Lin and Bhansali’s niece Sharmin Segal.

The recently released series transports viewers back to pre-Independence India, as Bhansali’s magnum opus explores the lives and struggles of courtesans living in the red light district of Heeramandi, situated in Lahore. Meanwhile, at the special dinner, Bhansali opted to wear his signature black kurta, while Sharmin looked stunning in ethnic attire. Sharing the photos, Netflix wrote, “Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos hosted a dinner party as Hollywood’s elite arrived to celebrate the LA Premiere of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the Los Angeles premiere revealed that he had other actors in mind. Talking to Lilly Singh, the filmmaker shared, “This was 18 years ago so at one point it was Rekha ji, Kareena and Rani Mukerji. Then it changed into another cast, then it changed into another cast.” Interestingly at one point, Bhansali even wanted to cast Pakistani actors Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan and Imran Abbas, but things changed and the filmmaker says he is “very happy with the cast.”

Meanwhile, the series features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, Farida Jalal, Taha Shah Badussha, Fardeen Khan, Adhyayan Suman and Shekhar Suman in key roles.

Following Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is gearing up for his next project titled Love and War, featuring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. While Alia has previously collaborated with Bhansali in Gangubai Kathiawadi and Ranbir made his debut under Bhansali’s direction in Saawariya, the upcoming film will be Vicky’s first collaboration with the master filmmaker.
