John Abraham's Vedaa Gets U/A Crtificate After Censor Board Deletes 9 Mins of Content; Deets Inside
The censor board has also asked the makers of Vedaa to modify its 1-minute-16-second long disclaimer and add a voiceover to it.

John Abraham is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie, Vedaa. Days ahead of the film’s release, it has now been reported that it has finally received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, CBFC granted a U/A certificate to Vedaa on August 6 after cutting down its content by over 9 minutes. The censor board asked the makers to modify its 1-minute-16-second long disclaimer and add a voiceover to it. Besides this, a dialogue which was allegedly derogatory towards women and social identity has also been asked to be modified. An abusive word ‘behenkhor’ has also been replaced with ‘bana’.

A 2-minute-16-second long hanging scene has also been deleted. The makers have also been asked to mute the word ‘Jodhpur’ while referring to Jodhpur High Court. Visuals of violence inside the court premises have also asked to be reduced by 30%.

In one of the scenes from the movie, a character is seen listening to an audio track on a mobile phone with Sanskrit shlokas. The song has now been deleted by the censor board. Text information ‘Brahmin son…Shudra’s son’ has also been asked to be deleted. Lastly, the makers have also been asked to blur visuals of the tearing of currency notes.

Interestingly, this comes days after the makers of Vedaa shared a long statement and alleged “unusual delay” by CBFC for clearance of the film.

“Adhering to protocols, we applied for a certificate well before the prescribed eight weeks to release. Our film was screened for the CBFC on June 25th. Post this, we were advanced to a revising committee review without any explanation as to what the esteemed examining committee’s concerns or objections were. Since then, we have waited patiently for a revising committee to be constituted, impressed on all respected and honourable office bearers and repeatedly daily documented our appeal for certification, consideration or even an explanation. Despite this unusual delay, we have full faith in the system in place and are confident that the CBFC will oblige us rightfully,” a part of the statement read.

Besides John Abraham, Vedaa will also star Abhishek Banerjee and Sharvari Wagh in a key role. Tamannaah Bhatia will also feature in the movie. Vedaa is scheduled to hit theatres on August 15, 2024. This means that it will clash at the box office with Rajkummar Rao and Tamannaah Bhatia’s Stree 2.
