Josh Brolin Approached To Play Hal Jordan In DC's Green Lantern Series: Report
Josh Brolin is in discussions to play Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the DCU's Lanterns series. Fans had been rooting for actors like Glen Powell and Chris Pratt too.

A recent report suggests that Josh Brolin has been approached to take on a significant role in the upcoming DC Universe’s Lanterns series. While the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) did not heavily feature a Green Lantern, James Gunn’s new DCU plans to give the Green Lantern Corps a central focus. Currently, three human Green Lanterns have reportedly been confirmed for the DCU: Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner in Superman: Legacy, Hal Jordan and John Stewart leading the Lanterns series. Now, it appears that the frontrunner for Hal Jordan has been decided too.

According to The InSneider (initially reported by Nexus Point News), Josh Brolin is in discussions to play Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the DCU’s Lanterns series. Brolin is no stranger to superhero roles. He has previously played Cable in Deadpool 2 and more notably, Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If this casting happens, Brolin would have a key role in DCU’s Chapter One and possibly beyond as Hal Jordan. However, Brolin’s team has not yet commented on the offer, which was made last week.

According to ScreenRant, Brolin’s name wasn’t one of the widely speculated choices for Hal Jordan. Fans had been rooting for actors like Glen Powell and Chris Pratt too.

HBO’s description of the Green Lantern series refers to Hal Jordan as a Lantern legend, indicating that his character will likely serve as a mentor to the younger John Stewart in Lanterns. As per ScreenRant, Brolin brings depth to the role of the wise, seasoned, yet compassionate mentor, which might be exactly what the DCU envisions for Hal Jordan. The actor has previously excelled in this type of role. In the Dune franchise, he portrays Gurney Halleck, a character who mentors Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides in combat and values.

Brolin’s portrayal of Thanos also demonstrates that he would be a valuable addition to the DCU. His performance brought a complex and compelling villain to life, making Thanos one of the most memorable antagonists in cinematic history. Nonetheless, other actors who more closely resemble Hal Jordan’s appearance were also considered for the role, so it will be interesting to see why Brolin was chosen and if he will ultimately accept the part.
