On day one, Kedarnath managed its collections in the 7-7.25 crore nett range.

Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Kedarnath is fuelled up in controversies and the film has been banned in Uttarakhand. Despite that, the film has managed to do a fair business at the box office.

On day one, Kedarnath managed its collections in the 7-7.25 crore nett range, reports Box Office India. The report further states, "It is actually the biggest opening of the Sushant Rajput beating the 6.30 crore nett of Shudh Desi Romance. this is not counting M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story as the driving force behind that film was not the stars but the cricketer himself."

On the other hand, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is still strong at the box office. Film Trade analyst Taran Adarsh predicts that S. Shankar film will cross the Rs. 150 Crores mark today. Giving away the figure of 2.0 he wrote, "#2Point0 stayed strong, despite a new release [#Kedarnath] eating into the screens, shows and footfalls... Expected to show substantial growth on second Sat and Sun... Will cross ₹ 150 cr today... [Week 2] Fri 5.85 cr. Total: ₹ 145.60 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version." (sic)

Meanwhile, Rohit Vats of News18 rated Kedarnath as 3/5 and called Sara Ali Khan confident as a debutante. He wrote, "Sara’s rebellious attitude catches your fancy. She is fierce, sharp tongued and in control of her surroundings. For a debutante, she appears confident." Talking about Sushant's performance in the film, he mentions, "On the other hand, Sushant eases us into noticing the societal layers and how he represents the generation that doesn’t put religious beliefs over everything else in life. He is natural, charming and nuanced."

The film, Kedarnath is a love story set in the backdrop of the devastating 2013 Uttarakhand floods. In the film, Sara plays Mukku, an upper-class Hindu pilgrim and Sushant plays Mansoor, a Muslim ‘pithoo’ (porter) who carries children and the old to Kedarnath, a holy Hindu shrine located in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Jointly produced by Abhishek Kapoor and Ronnie Screwvala, Kedarnath was released on December 7.
