Ratna Pathak Shah and Rupali Ganguly reprised their roles as Maya Sarabhai and Monisha Sarabhai for a Flipkart ad campaign, evoking nostalgia for fans of the 2004 sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. In the ad, Maya, the snobbish matriarch, makes fun of the discounted groceries offered by her daughter-in-law Monisha, while Monisha tries to explain the benefits of the discounts. The ad captures the essence of the cult show, which remains a favourite among viewers.
In the ad, Maya says, “Yeh kya hai discounted items, dry fruits at 45% off. Monisha beta yeh sab tumhare maayke see aaya hai na.” Monisha tells her about the discounts while offering her ‘moongfali ki chutney’. Ratna, as Maya, then replies, “Peanut butter Monisha, moongfali ki chutney is just so down market.”
Internet couldn’t keep it together after the ad was dropped. “After such a long time saw monisha and Maya together,” wrote one user. “Mummy jee and Monisha,” read another. “love their chemistry,” read a third comment.
Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai originally premiered in 2004 on STAR One and wrapped up its first season in 2006. In 2017, it was renewed for a new season, titled Take 2, which aired on Disney+ Hotstar. The show, created and directed by Aatish Kapadia and also directed by Deven Bhojani, was produced by Jamnadas Majethia’s Hats Off Productions. The ensemble cast included Satish Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, and Rajesh Kumar portraying the characters of Indravardhan, Sahil, and Rosesh Sarabhai, respectively. Ratna Pathak Shah played as an upper-class socialite, Maya, while her daughter-in-law Monisha, played by Rupali Ganguly, was portrayed as a middle-class homemaker.
Meanwhile, Rupali Ganguly currently plays the role of Anupamaa in Rajan Shahi’s popular show of the same name. The show has been ruling TRP charts for years now and is widely loved by the audience. Recently, Rupali Ganguly joined politics too. The actress visited the BJP headquarters in New Delhi when she joined the political party and said, “I am so honoured to be here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has influenced me a lot. I am a big fan of PM Modi. BJP has been doing great work and therefore i wanted to join the BJP. I am very thankful to the party.”
The actress also spoke to the news agency ANI when she shared that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s working style and personality which made her join the “Modi sena”. “The one personality that attracts everyone towards BJP is PM Modi. His working style, personality and the way he has taken our country towards development, every Indian wants to join ‘Modi Sena’ and contribute to the country and I also felt the same and hence I joined BJP,” she said.
