Mithun Chakraborty Reveals The Name Of First Lead Actress Who Agreed To Work With Him

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty ruled the silver screens in the 80s and 90s with his unique style of dancing and stellar acting chops. His venture into the acting world and rise to success were pitted with many challenges. At a recent show, Mithun Chakraborty shared that various A-list actresses refused to work with him initially. He said this is because of the influence of their male co-stars, who considered him to be a “B-grade actor”. Mithun Chakraborty marked his debut with Mrigyaa opposite Mamta Shankar. During his recent appearance in Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2023 he made a revelation. He talked about his “battles” and said, “Koi bhi badi heroine mere sath kaam karne ko taiyaar nahin thi (No big actress was ready to work with me). They thought I was a chhota (small) star”. The Disco Dancer star further shared that people doubted if he could ever become a hero and said many things, which he did not want to talk about, as it hurt him to think about it.

Mithun Chakraborty further disclosed that there was a time when he had self-doubts and thought he would never “transition from B-grade films to A-grade films.” He revealed that actresses often used to walk out after the film was announced. A few actors were also insecure that he would someday make it big in the industry. They threatened his co-stars by saying that if they worked with Mithun, then the actresses wouldn’t be able to work with them.

He then shared that it was Zeenat Aman who took a chance with him. Director Brij Sadanah decided to make the film Taqdeer with Mithun Chakraborty, who also approached Zeenat Aman and said that Mithun Chakraborty is “my hero” for the film. He asked her if he wanted to do a film with him and the actress agreed. Soon, other actresses decided to work with him. He was roped into A-grade films and till date is grateful to Zeenat Aman for her support.

Mithun Chakraborty has worked in many hit films like Hum Paanch, Yaadon Ki Kasam, Baat Ban Gayi, Ashanti, and Hum Se Hai Zamana.
