Bollywood actor Abhay Deol, on Wednesday evening, had lashed out at racism in India and Bollywood's obsession with fair skin through a series of Facebook posts. He chose campaigns that tried to sell the idea that being dark wasn't beautiful.
He ribbed the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and John Abraham for featuring in campaigns that promote and sell fairness creams and other such products.
Deol questioned whether "they show the same racism around the world that they are clearly showing here in India" citing an example of a campaign featuring Sonam Kapoor.
To this, Sonam took to Twitter and thanked her Aisha co-actor for bringing this to the forefront. She further told him that she had done this ad 10 years ago when she didn't understand the ramifications.
Soon after this, the actress shared another campaign featuring Abhay's sister Esha Deol and asked Abhay's thoughts about the same.
The actor was quick to agree and said this "is wrong too".

In a following tweet, Deol asked Sonam to use her power and take this discussion further than the forefront.
"More power to you @sonamakapoor maybe you can use your power as well to take this further than the forefront," he wrote.

The actress, however, deleted the tweets from her account as soon as users started trolling her.
