Watch: Karan Johar Hints At 'Bohot Sara Drama' In New Showtime Promo

Karan Johar’s upcoming web series Showtime has been generating buzz, with many speculating that it might be based on the behind-the-scenes or the silver screen, nepotism debates, and many other aspects of the entertainment industry that general viewers do not know much about. Adding to the excitement surrounding the show, Karan Johar shared a new promotional video for the much-awaited series. The video shows Johar being approached by a couple of writers with a story idea for his next project. One of the writers is seen narrating a story that appears to be loosely based on Johar’s life as a filmmaker.

The writer mentions a prominent filmmaker, who happens to be the offspring of another renowned filmmaker from the past and has delivered numerous blockbuster hits. Furthermore, the writer elaborates that this filmmaker is frequently accused of favouring nepotism and exclusively launching children of established stars in the film industry.

The writer in the promo goes on to say that despite his reputation, he is called the “nepo king” of the industry. He finally has a major clash with an outsider who tries to make it into the industry. Johar, in the video, likes the idea and the video ends with him sharing the script idea with his mother and expressing doubt that the story he just approved is actually his own.

This series signifies yet another collaboration between Dharmatic Entertainment, Karan Johar’s Mumbai-based production company renowned for creating shows such as Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives and Call Me Bae, and Disney+ Hotstar. The two entities already enjoy a successful partnership with the widely acclaimed talk show Koffee with Karan, hosted by Johar for eight seasons.

Before the promotional video, the trailer for Showtime, released about three weeks ago, features interactions between Mouni Roy and Emraan Hashmi, discussions about box office collections, and references to nepotism. The legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah makes a striking entrance as a producer, wielding a walking stick and smoking a cigarette, delivering lines like, “Cinema dhandha nahi, dharam hai mera.”

Directed by Sumit Roy and produced by Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the series boasts a star-studded cast including Emraan Hashmi, Rajeev Khandelwal, Mouni Roy, Naseeruddin Shah, and Shriya Saran in key roles. Showtime is set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8th.
