Namrata Shirodkar and her younger sister Shilpa Shirodkar were the rage in the 1990s. Now, as Shilpa is making her Bollywood comeback via Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 18, fans are intrigued to know about her dynamic with her sister. Namrata opened up about her equation with Shilpa in an old Rediff AMA.
Shilpa Shirodkar ventured into films before her sister. As such, when a fan asked Namrata if she wanted to be a star like Shilpa, she replied, “Well!! I am not too sure I can match my sister’s talent. But let’s hope for the best.”
Another fan asked Namrata if she would do a film opposite Shilpa. The actress wrote, “If destiny beckons I will definitely do a film with Shilpa not opposite her!!!!” Answering another question about their sibling bond, Namrata wrote, “There is no sibling rivalry as you might assume. We are best of friends. (Shilpa says: Are we????)”
With Shilpa entering Bigg Boss 18, fans are curious to learn more about her. Shilpa is the younger sister of Namrata Shirodkar and sister-in-law of Telugu star Mahesh Babu. Although the sisters have been private about their personal lives, Shilpa had spoken about Namrata and Mahesh in an old interview.
In February 2020, she opened up about her and Namrata’s acting journey. She recalled that despite Namrata being the older sister, Shilpa became an actress and got married before, leading to confusion about her being the older sibling.
“That’s because I did everything before Namrata. I joined films before her. I married before and became a mother first,” Shilpa told National Herald India. Despite living in different countries, the Shirodkar sisters remained close. “We became even closer after we lost our parents. I make it a point to be in India for every release of my brother-in-law Mahesh Babu,” Shilpa added.
Although Namrata Shirodkar and Mahesh Babu have not publicly reacted to Shilpa’s participation in Bigg Boss 18, she revealed in an interview before entering the show that they are excited for her. “(Namrata and Mahesh) are very happy for me. They are very proud of me and they just know that whatever I do, I’ll do it myself. I know I’m going to make them very proud. As a family, we are a very close-knit family. They are very supportive of me,” Shilpa Shirodkar told the Times of India.
